Breaks are a necessary part of any working environment. Your brain just works better after you give it a few seconds to think (or not think) about something else and refresh.
My breaks usually involve some sort of online distraction -- my Facebook newsfeed is a popular outlet, so is Amazon shopping. Pinterest is another one where breaks never end on time.
But sometimes I feel like I need a break where I actually use my brain. Otherwise Facebook will turn my brain to mush.
When this came out a few months ago I immediately bookmarked it for future reference. It's a list of 19 websites that can "make you smarter." I was happy to see that I already used a few of them like lumosity, quora and duolingo but there were quite a few that were new to me.
One of particular note is Digital Photography School. If you're into shooting with an SLR and are unsure how to use it when it's on manual (like me) then this is a great resource. Most of the photo files I get for videos are from iPhones, but the photos I get from SLR cameras always look 100 times better in the final video.
While there's obviously no guarantee that you'll be smarter after use, it's definitely healthier for your brain than starring at photos of random people or watching that YouTube playlist that leads to nowhere good. Try some out today! Your brain will thank you.
